Harvest Season and the Endowment of Heaven and Earth

In the question-and-answer section we specifically discuss drug quality and harvest season. A medicine’s endowment comes not only from species but from the full sequence of celestial timing and earthly qi that it has experienced. If the harvest time is wrong, the medicine may not yet have completed its proper qi-transformational maturation.

Receiving the qi of the four seasons and harvest endowment
Drug quality depends not only on species but on when and where the medicine completes the maturation of qi transformation between Heaven and Earth.

The heavenly dimension includes spring, summer, autumn, winter, day/night Yin-Yang, seasonal nodes, and stage of maturity. The earthly dimension includes place of origin, soil, humidity, terrain, and local climate. As a crystallization of the qi of Heaven and Earth, a medicine must form under appropriate temporal and geographical conditions to fully express its nature.

Using the growth cycle of hemp seed and other plants, we note that a plant should be allowed to pass through its complete growth phase before harvest so that its endowment can fully develop. This also connects with seasonal names discussed earlier, such as coltsfoot flower and Xiakucao: spring, summer, autumn, and winter in a name are not mere time labels but parts of the medicine’s qi-transformational history.
