The Jueyin-Type Person: Four Out, One In, and a Three-Fen Pulse
Compared with the preceding two types, the breath-pulse structure of the Jueyin-type person is even more distinctive:
Four out, one in: this is the Jueyin-type person, whose pulse lü are Yingzhong and Wushe. The Jueyin pulse oscillates three fen and moves through the divided flesh; with inhalation long and exhalation repeated, the pulse moves six times, while qi travels six cun—this is normal.
Here, six movements in one breath can still be “normal.”
Six movements cannot by themselves equal a rapid pathological pulse
Section titled “Six movements cannot by themselves equal a rapid pathological pulse”If one uses a single universal pulse count, six movements can easily be classified directly as fast. But the Mirror Classic requires simultaneous consideration of four-out-one-in, long inhalation and repeated exhalation, three-fen oscillation, and the Yingzhong-Wushe lü pair.
The number six has meaning only within the complete structure.
Why is Jueyin three fen?
Section titled “Why is Jueyin three fen?”“Qiheng” already stated: “the pulses of Yangming and Jueyin surge three fen and rise like a ridge.” The individual-type chapter agrees with that baseline.
The source also describes the normal shape at three fen as “floating in spring, like a fish swimming in waves,” bringing seasonal background and pulse morphology into the comparison.
Hand and Foot Jueyin are separated by leaping and non-leaping
Section titled “Hand and Foot Jueyin are separated by leaping and non-leaping”The text says that when Nourishing qi is abundant and Defense strong, with oscillation and leaping, this is Foot Jueyin; when essence-qi rises strongly and moves without leaping, this is Hand Jueyin.
Even within the same type, waveform direction and leaping further differentiate hand and foot channels.
Why does this section suddenly discuss the Bao-network at such length?
Section titled “Why does this section suddenly discuss the Bao-network at such length?”The source then gives a long description of the Hand Jueyin Bao-network arising from the Bao center, connecting with the testicular system, linking the Heart system, and passing through Sanjiao, and says:
The Bao-network is the root of continuation and reproduction, the ancestral beginning of original qi.
It further distinguishes the male Bao storing essence from the female Bao storing blood.
Within the Mirror Classic’s model, Jueyin therefore has a particularly strong relation to the Bao-network, original qi, and the roots of reproduction rather than representing only a single “Liver channel” concept.
The next article turns to the Shaoyang type, returning to six-fen oscillation but reversing the respiratory direction into “two in, one out.”
